Outdoor Activities
Leavenworth is surrounded by "The Great Outdoors.
" You can do a number of outdoor sports within
minutes of the Linderhof Inn, as well as discover
all the things Leavenworth and the Upper Valley
have to offer. Venture out into the countryside
and the surrounding valley to pursue a variety of
physical challenges, choosing one based on your
personal fitness and thirst for adventure. Tour a
museum; take in a movie, play, or concert; tempt
your taste buds on a winery tour; or look for that
perfect gift in one of Leavenworth's many specialty
shops. You won’t run out of things to do!
Downhill Ski/Snowboard
Steven’s Pass is the closest place for downhill
skiing and snowboarding, located about 35 minutes
East of Leavenworth. If you want to avoid the crowds,
try driving an hour out to Mission Ridge, located in
the hills above Wenatchee. Equipment rentals and
lessons are available at both resorts, and a few
places in between.
Cross Country Skiing
Leavenworth is a fantastic place to explore on Cross
Country Skis. No matter what your style, you can
find a place to practice it here. Leavenworth has
backcountry skiing and groomed trails, even a
couple Nordic Centers! You can ski at the downtown
park, the golf course, out at the fish hatchery, above
town at Ski Hill, and numerous other places. Bring
your own gear or rent from one of our local gear shops.
Bicycle/Mountain Bike
Bicycling presents a unique perspective to the rider,
and it's the best way to experience a place as beautiful
as the Leavenworth area. Hit the trail on a mountain
bike and explore the woods; or take to the road. Pack
a backpack picnic and a map, and set out to enjoy the
beautiful countryside. Consult our maps to choose a
route that suites you!
Run
The country roads and fresh air make Leavenworth
an ideal place to run or jog. Request a running map,
select a route, and watch the spectacular scenery
unfold at the pace of your stride.
Hike
Leavenworth is the gateway to several wilderness
areas, all of them breathtaking. Take a peaceful hike
along the river, or tackle a more vigorous climb up
into the Enchantments and other ridges. Our map
will guide you and provide information on the
bountiful plants and animals you can expect to
encounter along the way.
Golf
Whether you golf for the exercise, the challenge,
or the experience of being outside, expect an
exceptional golf experience at the Leavenworth
Golf Club. Kahler Glen, just 25 minutes outside
of Leavenworth, provides a great day of golf as well.
River Play
Late spring is the most exciting time to raft or
kayak the mighty Wenatchee River, with its big
waves and roaring rapids, though you can enjoy
less adrenaline-pumping journeys downriver from
spring to autumn. Arrange a guided trip with one
of the local companies who supply you with all
the equipment you need. One local company will
even set you up with an inner tube for a relaxing
float downriver!
Rafting
Whitewater rafting is an exhilarating way to
commune with nature. Enjoy the beauty of bald
eagles and blue heron soaring above you, or osprey
diving for a fish right next to your boat. This is an
adventure not to be missed. Many local rafting
companies will pack a lunch for you and take you
out for a memorable day.
Rock Climbing
There are several areas around Leavenworth
with good climbing, whether you prefer traditional
rock climbing, bouldering, or sport climbing. Most
of the climbs are in either the Icicle Canyon or the
Tumwater Canyon. There are a variety of single-
and multi-pitch climbs, from 5.0 to 5.13. Stop in at
one of the local gear shops for up-to-date
guidebooks and beta, even lessons.
Fishing
Whether you are ice fishing on Fish Lake in the
winter, or enjoying a cold beverage on a hot
summer day while fishing for salmon on beautiful
Lake Wenatchee, Chelan County is a paradise
for outdoorsmen.
Shopping
Leavenworth is a great town for shopping. It is
filled with specialty shops selling all things bizarre
and hilarious, as well as elegant, sophisticated gifts.
